OIL Search has updated progress on its Barikewa-3 appraisal well in its petroleum retention licence 9 in the Forelands of Papua New Guinea, which is part of a two well appraisal program the company shares with Santos.

Two well program in PNG Forelands progressing

While Horizon Oil, and JV partner Repsol, have been having issues in PNG with the petroleum minister recently cancelling a license, Oil Search is working to commercialise its Forelands fields, in the country's centre.
 
Spudded on June 25 by the HAES Rig Barikewa-3, the target was the Cretaceous Toro sandstone and deeper Jurassic Hedinia sandstone.
 
The well's objective is to constrain the resource in the field and assist in selecting the field's optimal commercialisation pathway.
 
It follows on from the successful Kimu-2 appraisal well in PRL 8 in the Forelands.
