Local daily the National quoted Acting Secretary for Petroleum Bernard Pawih as saying: “I welcome all interested parties to apply in accordance to the PNG 2006 licensing round guidelines.

“Companies will apply on a competitive basis and we expect applications to come within the invitation period.”

The offer closes on April 13 and notice of all applications will be published in the country’s National Gazette.

Pawih said a team from his department would assess the applications and make a report for the petroleum advisory board, which would then prepare its report for the petroleum minister and the National Executive Council.

Winning bidders are expected to be announced in July.
