THE A$516 million federal loan handed to Genex Power for its Kidston Stage 2 project has been labelled “privatisation by the backdoor” by a union calling on the Queensland government to reject the deal and instead push ahead with plans for the state-owned CleanCo renewables funding arm.

Electrical Trades Union calls for Queensland to reject Kidston deal

The Electrical Trades Union issued a statement slamming the federal loan to the pumped hydro and solar power project through the $5 billion Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility. 
 
The union's Queensland and Northern Territory secretary Peter Ong said it was "yet another case of the federal government intervening in state affairs and imposing its toxic agenda on the people of Queensland".
 
He said it was a sneaky way of privatising state assets through backdoor deals with private companies and in direct contravention of the state government and opposition LNP's supposed anti-privatisation stance.
