Liddell life extension could cost A$100M a year

THE future of AGL Energy’s Liddell coal-fired power station in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, remains unclear after speculation over the weekend the energy and emission minister Angus Taylor wants to extend its lifespan by three years at a cost of A$100 million a year to the taxpayer.

Forced acquisition of Liddell has previously been one of Taylor's 'big stick' measures for energy companies

Sky News reported Sunday that Taylor was leaning towards keeping the station open to 2026 which is when Snowy Hydro 2.0 is expected to come online and it may even buy the station from AGL.
