Beijing fires missiles into the South China Sea 

CHINA has fired a series of medium-range missiles into the South China Sea in another move to assert itself as US attention moves back to the contested area after secretary of state Mike Pompeo called Chinese actions to halt other nations' oil and gas exploration "illegal" last month.
