J.Ray McDermott successfully completes pipelay offshore Vietnam

J. Ray McDermott's combination derrick lay barge, KP1, has completed a 'first of its kind' pipelay operation in the Gulf of Thailand, offshore Vietnam for Petro Vietnam.

The offshore crew of the KP1 laid 45km of 40cm pipeline from facilities in the Bach Ho "White Tiger" field to a wellhead platform in the Rang Dong "Dawn" field. The two fields are owned and operated by Vietsopetro and Japan Vietnam Petroleum Company.

The crew then went on to install long subsea tie-in spools from each end of the pipeline to the existing risers in water depths of around 55m, according to McDermott.

The barge crew also completed pigging and hydrotesting of the completed pipeline and tie-in spool connections as well as installation of the boatlanding at the MSP4 jacket in the "White Tiger" field.

Vietnam is Southeast Asia's third largest producer of oil and gas.
