Origin Energy acquires Gasmart business

Origin Energy this week announced it has successfully acquired one of Victoria's leading retailers of gas appliances, Gasmart, from three Victorian distributors; TXU Networks, Multinet Gas and Vic Gas Distribution.

Origin said the $7.5 million acquisition will make the company the only energy retailer to provide a "fully integrated end to end service to the customer".

"The opportunity to establish Origin as the leading retailer of gas appliances and service was an important step consistent with the company's structure and strategic direction," Origin's executive general manager Peter Vines said."

Origin Energy is one of Australia's oldest gas and electricity companies. In addition to supplying nearly two million homes and businesses throughout Australia, it holds exploration interests in all states of Australia and is a significant gas supplier to NSW, Queensland and South Australia.
