It is understood that the fire started around 8 pm local time, however was contained to the number two cooling tower at the refinery. Ms Schulze said the fire was quickly bought under control by fire units, with the all- clear sounded around midnight.
Ms Schulze added the company is currently assessing the damage from the fire and whether it will impact supply to the market, which it did not envision. The refinery supplies around 13% of Australia's fuel needs, producing gasoline, diesel and jet fuel.
