POLICY ANALYST (Environment, Greenhouse & Water)

The Australian Petroleum Production &


Exploration Association Limited (APPEA) is the national body that represents companies engaged in Australia's petroleum exploration and production industry.The Association is looking to appoint an energetic and enthusiastic person to join the APPEA team for a position located in our Canberra office. The position will report to the Deputy Chief Executive and will primarily focus on environment, greenhouse and water issues as they relate to the industry.

The Policy Analyst will be responsible for the development of policy advice, undertaking analytical activities and providing operational support over a range of areas that are crucial to the oil and gas industry. The position will also entail making representations to industry, governments and non-government organisations.

The successful applicant for this position will need to have:

  • skills in policy development and analysis;
  • a demonstrated ability to analyse (in a strategic context) complex issues and to exercise sound judgement;
  • high level written and oral communication skills;
  • the ability to work constructively with colleagues and with minimal supervision;
  • self motivation, initiative and strong organisation skills; and
  • excellent presentation, representational and networking skills.

Ideally, the successful applicant should have experience in working closely with or within government agencies, interpreting legislation and understanding complex issues. The applicant should also have an understanding and/or interest in the Australian oil and gas industry. The position entails some travel within Australia.
