Another big windfall for Oz wind-power industry

The Australian wind-power industry got a another big windfall, pardon the pun, after the Tasmania Government announced it had signed a deal worth up to $200 million with Danish firm, Vestas, the world's biggest manufacturers of wind-turbines.

The deal involves an unconditional order for 128 megawatts of wind turbines, operational and maintenance support and civil works. It has also prompted the government-owned Hydro Tasmania to announce it would go ahead with the second stage of the 130MW Woolnorth wind farm in north-west Tasmania. The project will see the construction of 31 turbines, which are expected to be in operation by the middle of next year.
