Solarpark Gut Erlasse in Bavaria is a 12MW solar electric plant that uses Solon’s “Mover” photovoltaic system, which automatically tilts and rotates panels during the day to capture maximum sunlight. The Mover system, using SunPower A-300 solar cells, can generate twice the energy of a conventional fixed-location solar installation of a comparable size.
“Our goal with the Mover program was to develop a truly industrial solar power system,” said Solon chief executive officer Alex Voigt.
“Our recently announced $US300 million ($A397 million), five-year purchase agreement with SunPower for their high performance cells provides Solon with the supply security and visibility necessary for us to address the rapidly growing market for megawatt-scale solar power plants.”
The SunPower cells are used in about one-third of the Mover systems at Solarpark Gut Erlasse, but due to their exceptional performance generate a large proportion of the power created by the park.
“Solon’s Mover is an ideal application for SunPower’s high performance solar cell technology,” said SunPower CEO Tom Werner.
“As Europe’s largest manufacturer, Solon is well known and highly respected for its innovative technical solutions and high quality products. We are pleased to be a core supplier of the Mover program.”
