CHINA intends to invest US$265 billion (A$315 billion) in renewable energy by 2020, said Chen Deming, vice-chairman of the Chinese Development and Reform Commission.

He expects most of it to come from companies.

The investment, about half of which would go toward the development of large dams, would double the country's use of renewable energy to 15%.

Biomass and wind energy also feature prominently in the plan.
