SOUTH Australia-based waste remediation company Ziltek is claiming a handheld device that detects hydrocarbon contamination in soil will halve the cost of soil petroleum analysis.

The RemScan device, which was commercialised by Ziltek and the CSIRO, uses an infrared signal to directly measure petroleum hydrocarbons in soil.
