GLOBAL oil giant BP will cut 10,000 jobs as the company struggles to maintain its balance sheet amid the COVID-19 pandemic which has decimated fuel demand and the oil price crash.

In a letter and phonecall with staff overnight, BP chief executive Bernard Looney said drastic job cuts were needed as the company was "spending much, much more" than it was making in revenue.
