Lifeline for Tiwai smelter 

ASX-listed Meridian Energy and Rio Tinto have reached a deal to keep the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter in Southland, New Zealand, open until the end of 2024 after announcing in 2019 it would shut in the middle of this year.
