The ChevronTexaco contract employee was killed when he and a co-contractor were hit by what company spokesman Sola Omole described as stray bullets on Monday. He died later in hospital.

Crew rotation at the Escravos operations has been halted due to the situation. because the current situation did not permit safe transport of its personnel.

In similar news, three more Shell flow stations have been shut, bringing the total to five that have been shut since the ethnic violence flared.

Shell is reported to be producing around 76,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) less than its usual 1million bopd. One staff member is still reported missing from Shell's supply base in Escravos on Monday.
