In an interview with the Canadian Broadcast Corp, Saudi Aramco representative Steve Sawyer said, “A lot of Canadians are interested in working in the kingdom despite security problems there.”
“[Despite] 22 people, most of them expatriates, were killed in a violent hostage-taking incident in the eastern Saudi city of Khobar, these events have not slowed traffic at [our] recruiting at the [Global Petroleum Show] trade show,” added Sawyer.
The Canadian government has warned its citizens to stay away from Saudi Arabia, as it believes the indiscriminate targeting of foreigners is “of great concern”. Sawyer, however, Canadians who work for his company will be well protected.
“Right now we are taking a close look at our security measures, making our employees safety our number one priority,” said Sawyer.
