Daewoo, Saipem win ExxonMobil platform contract

ExxonMobil Canada has awarded a contract for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation for the Sable compression platform - and its facilities - to a joint partnership between Italy's Saipem S.p.A. and South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

The topsides, which is to be placed offshore Sable Island (around 250 km from Nova Scotia, Canada), will be linked to the existing Thebaud platform. The platform will need to undergo some minor retrofitting to accommodate the new link.

The offshore installation phase of the operation will be conducted by the Saipem 7000 vessel. This final phase is expected to be conducted sometime in mid-2006.
