Azizan said the appointment was most appropriate and that the former prime minister was responsible for turning the company from a national level oil corporation into an international entity.

"Dr Mahathir Mohammad paved the way for Petronas to venture into the international petroleum business. It has done so, and now its revenue from its international operations surpassed its domestic operations," said Azizan.
