Saipem awarded Sakhalin II projects

Italy's Saipem S.p.A. has been awarded two offshore Sakhalin II projects worth a total of around ...

The deal with SIC sees Saipem having to engineer, procure, construct and install a twin pipeline system that will connect the Lunskoye and Piltun-Astkhskoye offshore platforms to the shore. The two rigs are located north east of Sakhalin and the construction work is to be done, mostly, by Saipem's Castoro 2 and Semac 1 construction vessels over two summers - this year and next.

The second contract, with South Korea's Samsung, sees Saipem transporting and installing the topsides for the Lunskoye and Piltun-Astkhskoye B platforms. This will be done over two summers - 2005 and 2006 - with the Piltun-Astkhskoye B (with its 28,000 tons displacement) expected to be the world's heaviest platform topside to be installed using a float-over system.
