Australian employers, recruitment companies, and state and local government organisations are making their way to London this weekend to meet with prospective skilled migrant workers at the two-day 2008 Australia Needs Skills expo.

Minister for Immigration and Citizenship Chris Evans said the expo would link Australian employers with more than 4000 prospective skilled migrants who were mainly young, highly qualified, English speaking people.

"Australia is this year seeking more than 100,000 people in its skilled migration stream including accountants, engineers, health professionals and tradespeople," he said.

"There are skilled vacancies in all states and territories in more than 90 occupations."

Among the exhibitors will be a recruitment firm acting on behalf of WA local governments, and a Canberra organisation aiming to recruit a range of skilled workers.

In 2006-07, a total of 24,800 British people arrived in Australia under the skilled migration program.

Evans said employer-sponsored migration was a high priority in the skilled migration program.

Australia Needs Skills expos have previously been held in Amsterdam, Berlin, Chennai, Kolkata, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Manila.
