Hovea sidetrack gains extra metres

Short term disappointment turned to joy for Arc Energy shareholders when the Hovea-3 sidetrack well (ST1) established an extra 2 metres of oil pay zone after a number of anxious days when the Hovea-3 well became stuck when pulling back out of the hole.

The partners, Origin Energy and Arc Energy, cemented a plug in the main well bore and sidetracked when repeated efforts to jar the pipe loose failed. They kicked off the sidetracked well around 1600 metres.

ST1 drilled through the problematic formation without trouble and established a 29 metre pay zone, an extra two metres from the 27 metre zone established by Hovea-3.

The partners have reported excellent permeability rates, ranging up to 6 darcies with an average of one darcy. They plan to complete the logging program and run 7 inch production casing.
