Ice-class rig commissioned by Beacon

BEACON Holdings has commissioned an ice-class semi-submersible drilling rig to be constructed by Chinese offshore rig builder Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore.

The Beacon Atlantic rig is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2016 and will be built to the GM4-D design, a special rig designed by partner Global Maritime, for Arctic conditions.

Beacon Atlantic will be capable of operating at a water depth of 500m and drilling wells down to 8000m.

The rig will also be built to withstand the extreme weather conditions often experienced in the North Sea.

Beacon Atlantic is the second GM4-D design semi-submersible drilling rig for Yantai.
