Arc, Origin sidetracked in Perth Basin

PRELIMINARY logging data suggests the high-impact Drakea-1 exploration well in the onshore Perth Basin has intersected a 3-5m oil column, according to operator Arc Energy.

The company, which was completing the wireline logging program on Friday, said it was considering sidetracking the well to penetrate the High Cliff Sandstone in a more crestal location on the structure where a bigger hydrocarbon column could be encountered.

This operation would take seven days to achieve once the logging program is complete, Arc said.

Drakea-1, which is about 19km southeast of the Dongara township, was directionally drilled to target 15 million barrels of oil potential in the High Cliff Sandstone in production licence L1, where Arc and Origin are 50:50 partners.
