In a bid to resurrect the sinking project, the government officials will meet tomorrow with representatives of the project operator, American oil giant ExxonMobil, and Alcan, which has signed a major offtake agreement for PNG gas, according to the Australian Financial Review.

Queensland Deputy Premier Anna Bligh told the newspaper the State Government was “disappointed” in the latest developments but hoped it would still go ahead.

“The most significant advantage of the pipeline to Queensland was to bring in a competitive source of energy to the northern area of the state,” she said.
