The announcement is the latest move in a long saga as Pilot, having started the process to fully acquire the Cliff Head platform and field from JV partner Triangle, has been working to develop it as a carbon capture and storage project.

With that now hanging in the balance, attention will turn to how the substantial decommissioning costs might be met.
