As mentioned earlier in EnergyReview.net, the gas deal between Israel Electric Corp (IEC) and the East Mediterranean Gas Co was in danger of falling through due to Israeli police investigation into alleged corruption, the fallout from the Paritzky Affair, and the apparent reservation of the IEC Board, which wanted to suspend all negotiations until further notice.
Platt’s, citing an Israeli official, said, “Israel’s new national infrastructure minister Eliezer Zandberg has decided to go ahead with a natural gas deal with Egypt despite an ongoing police investigation.”
“After his appointment as minister, Zandberg [has] asked the country’s attorney general to provide guidelines on the natural gas deal, which is currently under police investigation for allegations of corruptions,” added the informant.
