According to PTT vice president of corporate public relations, Pongpayak Sathienpakiranakorn, consumption of refined oil products in the January-to-September period increased 4.5% to 644,900 barrels per day compared with 2002 figures.

"The use of diesel oil in Thailand increased by 8% to 298,900 barrels per day, gasoline rose 4.7% to 130,400 barrels per day and cooking gas up 1.9% to 68,000 barrels per day," he added.

What this all means is that the country has had to pay more for its fuel bills. Try to the tune of 266.28 billion baht for the import of an additional 8.1% of crude oil at 792,400 barrels per day. That is an increase of around 28.6% from the same period in 2002.
