Russia to double rail oil shipments to China

According to Pashkov, "Russia's railway sector plans increasing the oil transportation to China to an annual 30 million tonnes in prospect [and], to handle this scale of operation, additional tracks will be built on the Trans-Baikal Railway for reloading oil tanks on China's narrower rail tracks."

Pashkov also confirmed, "[An] Additional US$3.5 million [is] slated for electrification of a railway stretch between Chita and Zabaikalsk." This project is expected to be completed by 2007.
