This represents the first production from PEL 100 on the northern flank of the Cooper Basin, with partner Cooper Energy saying the result was expected to generate further exploration efforts in the region.

Stuart farmed into the permit in May.

At that time the PEL 100 joint venture comprised operator Cooper Energy, Sundance Energy and Enterprise Energy, as well as United States company Liberty Petroleum.

Last year, three consecutive wells were plugged and abandoned in the permit after failing to encounter commercial hydrocarbons.
