Winter chill fear lifts crude prices

World oil prices scaled new heights this week, with some products touching US$53 per barrel, amid concerns of tight heating fuel supplies during the looming northern winter and an unexpected strike at Nigerian oil terminals.

United States light crude set the record of US$53 on Thursday before settling at US$52.67. London crude also struck a new high, of US$49.20 per barrel, before ending at US$48.90.
