Niko Alpha Platform under tow to India

Canadian company Niko Resources has announced that its Hazira "Alpha" Platform has left its Laem ...

A custom-made Precision 703 drilling module - fabricated in Vancouver and specifically designed for the platform - will be installed on deck as soon as it arrives on location.

The offshore platform - for which Clough Engineering was awarded an EPIC tender - has been earmarked for the Hazira natural gas field of which Niko is the operator and holds a 33.33% working interest in the field, which currently has 21 wells on production.

The platform is part of Phase II development of the field and it is slated to begin production some time in the first quarter of this year.

Hazira is mostly located in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Cambay and covers an area of around 50 square km. Last fiscal year, field production averaged 105 mmcf per day gross (35 mmcf per day net), compared to 60 mmcf per day gross (20 mmcf per day net) in 2002. Current field production figures rate at between 130 and 140 mmcf per day gross (43 mmcf per day net).
