APPEA presented its 2004 Safety Award and the 2004 Environment Award for production operations to Mark Nolan, ExxonMobil Australia Chairman.

ExxonMobil, through Esso Australia, operates the Gippsland oil and gas production operations, including the Bass Strait platforms and the Longford and Long Island Point facilities, and the Barry Beach Marine Terminal, as well as the Wandoo platforms in Western Australia.

The APPEA safety award was presented to the company for its leading safety performances and contribution to enhancing safety culture across the industry.

The Environment Award was on the company's overall environment performance, as well as a written submission detailing one of the company's key environmental improvement initiatives in which Esso redesigned hose couplings for transferring liquids from supply boats to offshore platforms with the aim of eliminating even small inadvertent liquid releases.
