The two-day 2006 Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association Environment Conference will include sessions on environmental excellence, whales and the oil and gas industry, onshore environment, approvals and regulations, research and technology and international experiences.
“The oil and gas industry in Australia has long been a key contributor to ground-breaking research into cetaceans, that is, whales and dolphins,” APPEA director of industry operations Mark McCallum said.
“At this conference, the industry will discuss the science behind seismic surveys and whales, as well as the latest projects being undertaken internationally to learn more about these iconic and endangered creatures.”
Among a range of industry experts, guests will include Professor Ian Lowe of the Australian Conservation Foundation and Dr Ray Nias of WWF Australia on the industry’s potential into the future.
The internationally funded OGP Joint Industry Project into E&P Sound and Marine Life, which the Australian industry has committed $30 million to over four years, will also be featured.
“This will be one of the largest gatherings of environmental managers, government regulators and researchers in the oil and gas industry this year.”
Known as the Environmental Excellence: A Platform for Prosperity Conference, it will be held at the Hyatt Regency Coolum from November 19-21.
