Carigali, Shell hit pay dirt

Located 30 km east of the Bergading gas field, the 2,070 metre Bunga Kamelia-1 well has estimated reserves of 0.2 trillion cubic feet in two gas zones, subject to further technical evaluation.

The well was spudded on 5 November 2003. However, Mutiara has released a statement stating that it has "no immediate plan to appraise the Bunga Kamelia gas field." It explained that the company was concentrating on its 2004 drilling campaign.

The joint venture between the Petronas and Royal Dutch/Shell subsidiaries was formed in mid 2001 and both companies have a 50% stake in Mutiara. The Bunga Kamelia-1 well is the company's third exploration well. The first two were Blocks PM 301 and PM 302.
