ALTERNATIVE-energy developer Ceramic Fuel Cells has achieved electrical efficiency of 60% from one of its natural gas-powered fuel-cell home appliances, touted as the highest electrical efficiency ever achieved by a technology converting hydrocarbon fuel to electricity.

The Melbourne-based company said because the unit will be installed in homes and other buildings, converting gas to electricity on site, there would be no transmission or distribution losses.
