The two-day conference, to be hosted by the Pilbara Development Commission on September 2 and 3 in Karratha, will focus on the prospective development opportunities in the resource, tourism, marine and pastoral industries.

In addition it will focus on the future direction of these sectors and the impact this growth will have on the region.

"The conference will feature high-profile speakers, including Premier Dr Geoff Gallop, who will examine the economic and cultural diversity of the Pilbara region," local politician Tom Stephens said.

"Resource speakers from the major resource companies, Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd, BHP Billiton Iron Ore & HBI and Woodside Energy Ltd, will address the future direction of the resource industry and highlight how this growth will impact on the region, as well as focussing on the opportunities that these developments will bring to local enterprises.

"Sustainable development will be a key subject, with speakers addressing the importance of providing the appropriate framework and support for future socio-economic development.

"The opportunities for economic and social development of the region will be a key feature, particularly in the light of the recent announcements regarding the China gas deal and the other large resource projects looking to commit to the Pilbara region.

"I would encourage anybody who is interested in investing in the region by expanding existing operations or starting new enterprises to attend the conference," he said.

The Karratha Districts Chamber of Commerce and Industry will host an industry display in conjunction with the conference, followed by a dinner themed 'Year of the Outback' and sponsored by Western Power.
