The former petroleum and energy minister is seeking a judicial review of the Leadership Tribunal's decision to dismiss him for misappropriating his District Support Grants.

Avei's counsel Greg Sheppard called for the decisions against Avei to be quashed and for his client to be reinstated as a Member of Parliament until July 30.

He also submitted for costs to be paid by the state, the National newspaper late last week.

The tribunal, chaired by Justice Timothy Hinchliffe and senior magistrate members Steven Abisae and Mark Pupaka, on April 4 found Avei guilty of five out of nine allegations of misconduct in office.

It had also fined him 1500 kina ($US506) after being found guilty on two counts for failing to pay his rental fees to the National Housing Corporation.
