This position is part of a team responsible for monitoring and regulating safety performance and compliance in the upstream Petroleum and Gas industries (petroleum and gas exploration and production and transportation, along with geothermal, greenhouse gas storage and underground coal gasification activities). The primary purpose of the position is to undertake audits and investigations and coordinate strategic initiatives and oversight of regulatory services and compliance of specialised petroleum and gas industry sectors.

Key Duties and Accountabilities

  • Provide expert, professional and authoritative advice and knowledge for the petroleum and gas upstream exploration and production and related industries;
  • Develop strategic initiatives and undertake projects to enhance industry safety outcomes and improve and prioritise inspectorate regulatory activities;
  • Participate, monitor and report on the audit and inspection of petroleum and gas activities in accordance with the established regional program and initiate corrective measures and compliance action where appropriate;
  • Undertake investigations into alleged non-compliance with Queensland’s petroleum and gas legislation across the state and undertake, or assist staff during, the nature and cause investigation of major incidents, and serious and fatal accidents.
