The Brazilian basin blocks are 65% owned and operated by Karoon, with the rig contract comprising two firm wells and two option wells.

The initial Kangaroo-2 appraisal well and Kangaroo West-1 exploration well are scheduled to receive attention in September this year, satisfying Karoon's drilling commitments as outlined in its discovery appraisal plan.

"The primary objective of the drilling campaign is the appraisal of the Kangaroo oil discovery," Karoon executive chairman Robert Hosking said.

The Kangaroo-2 appraisal well is designed to confirm the size of the oil column, reservoir continuity and properties, and flow rates for the Kangaroo oil discovery.

"This information will be crucial for assessing the commerciality of the Kangaroo field, and on success, will be the basis for the front end engineering and design phase."

The company will use the same specialist team which completed its first three wells in the basin on time and within budget.
