So far only six tankers have been removed from the list of those expected to dock at Australian ports. But as their own supplies of Middle East crude oil are squeezed due to the Iran conflict, China is reportedly considering restricting the volume of jet fuels it exports.

MST Marquee's Saul Kavonic said if that happens Canberra needs to ensure Beijing knows "security of energy supply chains is a two-way street."

"If China is really going to be shutting us off, we should consider as a country tearing up that contract," he said.
